Sterling Silver Roman Christening Spoon
Sterling Silver Roman Christening Spoon
The Romans had a custom of presenting a new-born child with a silver spoon. This copy is one of the earliest spoons dating back to the 4th Century AD, found in a Scottish settlement south of the Forth - Traprain Law.
The monogram in the bowl of the spoon is the Chi Rho symbol, being the first letter two letters in the Greek word for Christ, showing that the spoon belonged to a Christian Roman.
This reproduction of this graceful spoon is hand crafted in England and made from sterling silver.
Spoon approximate length = 6" / 15.5cm
This item can be engraved on the spoon handle. Please contact us for more details.
