The Garden of Eden Banner is a delightful menagerie of hand-embroidered animals encircle Adam & Eve beneath the light of the Holy Spirit. Japanese gold thread, silk appliqué, and delicate silk shading evoke life in all its forms at the beginning of creation.
For the Crucifixion Banner we worked entirely in hand embroidery. The banner is an extraordinary acclamation of God incarnate and God unconfined in harmony. Delicately executed in Or Nue with Japanese Gold thread, the branches reach into the light of the heavenly state, transforming with God’s unconfined transcendence.
Sacramental Life of the Church Banner – The radiant sunburst, the True Vine, and baptismal waters visually reinforce the core tenets of Christian faith and sacramental life, beautifully expressed in the intricate embroidery.
Watts & Co made these banners for the Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas TX – based on Donald Jackson’s original illuminations in the Saint John’s Bible Heritage Edition. 2025.
“The folks at Watts were absolutely wonderful to work with. The deeply intentional work that they did researching and reflecting was wonderful because that is so connected to how The Saint John’s Bible and its illuminations came about too.”
The design utilised broad brush strokes painted on the silk and a wide variety of hand-embroidery techniques, including French knots, bullion knots, Japanese gold thread couching, split stitch, silk shading, appliqué to name a few.
