This exclusive Watts & Co. design, is based on a fabric in St John's Catholic Cathedral, Portsmouth, England. Alternating stylised fleur de lys and gryphons, the fabric also references Byzantine designs. The gryphon motif symbolises the human and divine nature of Christ: the lion representing humanity and the eagle divinity. The fabric aptly takes its name from the Council of Chalcedon of 451 AD, which ruled on the two distinct natures of Christ in one divine Person. 

This design was most famously used for the enthronement set for the Archbishop of Westminster, HE Vincent, Cardinal Nichols, at Westminster Cathedral. The brocatelle of cotton, silk and lumiyarn give the fabric a lustrous finish.
