This pattern displays a pomegranate motif, with two lions encapsulated within a pomegranate border, along with the central foliage representing the life cycle of the pomegranate fruit. The pomegranate border and the lions’ fur carries a dotted pattern to represent the seeds found within the fruit.
Lions and eagles also feature in Jewish symbology. King David famously referenced Saul and Jonathan as stronger than lions and lighter than eagles. (2 Samuel 1:23)
Fitting with the Judeo-Christian iconography, the fabric is named after Cannaregio in Venice, the 16th Century Jewish ghetto.
