Stag - Cloth of Gold
‘As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.’‘Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened, and bud forth a saviour: and let justice spring up together.’
Redolent with symbolism and images from the psalms, our 'Stag' fabric originated as a 14th-century pattern and contains the Wilton Diptych's depiction of a tethered stag with a crown round its neck (a heraldic sign of Richard II). A familiar Christian symbol, the stag also signifies the quest for God and God's presence in the world. Its many devotional implications make it one of our most popular fabrics. Original textiles of this pattern can be seen as part of The Met and V&A collections.
Woven in our mill in England, Watts' version has a level of detail that is second to none. We are delighted to present this stunning design in a range of colours.
