Desgined by Augustus Pugin, this regal fabric features a prominent pomegranate and thistle motif. The pomegranate has traditionally represented fruitfulness, eternal life, Christ's Passion and resurrection. The thistle is linked to Christ's crucifixion through the spiky nature of the plant. We can see influences of the design in 15th-century textiles currently in The Met collection.

The 'Pugin' tapestry was originally designed for a cope in St Augustine's Abbey in Ramsgate, England, and has since been used in a cope worn by the Archbishop of Canterbury for the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
