Newman Dalmatic

The shape of our ‘Newman’ vestment range is drawn from St John Henry Newman’s vestments which are kept in his private chapel in the Birmingham Oratory. It has, for a long time, been very difficult to acquire truly Latin shaped vestments: the shape used in Rome for well over 200 years and maintained by tradition in places such as the English Oratories and Westminster Cathedral. Places where 'Romanitas' has, for so long, been an important part of their charism. We have attempted to keep the design as authentic and close to historical examples as possible, including the width of stoles, position of crosses, and other little touches. All of these contribute to achieving a complete and perfect Latin cut.

Our Newman range is in our Davenport fabric, designed by G.F. Bodley, which is exclusive to Watts & Co. The patterns' origins can be found in Venice from the time of the Doge and most famously can be seen as the hanging in Hans Holbein the Younger's 'The Ambassadors'.  The outline orphreys used in this range are made from the highest quality gold metallic braid which complements the pattern perfectly.

Also available as a Tunicle or High Mass set.
