Church Urban Fund x Watts & Co.
'The Sustainable Collection' official launch & fundraising event
Thursday 7th February 2019
Sustainability, traceability and alleviating poverty are at the heart of Watts & Co.’s exclusive collaboration with the Church Urban Fund. The ‘Sustainable Collection’ features women’s clergy dresses, tops and vest stocks, all of which have been made in England using organic cotton jersey. The GOTS certified cotton was woven and dyed at a mill in Leicester and later sewn by a team of talented craftspeople in Watts’ Westminster workroom.
“As a company founded on Arts and Crafts ideals, we keep our founders’ legacies alive through the creation of beautifully crafted garments that stand the test of time. We are proud to partner with the Church Urban Fund, a charity committed to bringing long-term, sustainable change to impoverished communities across England. By donating 10% of proceeds to the charity, we endeavour to help people and communities throughout the country.”
Robert Hoare, Managing Director at Watts & Co.
Buying a garment or making a donation will help tackle a wide spectrum of social issues and provide vital support to those experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, food poverty and financial exclusion. £13.50 from every dress, £10 from every top and £5 from every vest stock will be donated to the Church Urban Fund.
“I am thrilled that Watts & Co. are partnering with the Church Urban Fund in producing this ethical collection. There are many shared values across our two organisations, including a belief that through the work of committed people real and positive change can occur. One of us is a clerical outfitters, and one of us is a social action charity, but at the heart of the way we both approach our work is an understanding of the immense value of people as individuals. This support from Watts & Co. will assist our work in mobilising communities around the country to respond to social issues in their area.”
Canon Paul Hackwood, CUF Executive Chair
The collection will officially launch at a fundraising event on Thursday 7th February and will feature a very special key note talk from Chine McDonald, Media and PR Lead at Christian Aid and a regular contributor to BBC Religion & Ethics Programmes, including the Daily Service, Pause for Thought and Prayer for the Day.
